(16:12:39)

(16:13:46)
Leo Vegoda
I am obviously happy to see the addition for support for internationalized e-mail addresses. I hope it is the first step towards much stronger support for proper spellings across the region
(16:13:51)
Eric van Uden
This is NOT the GM meeting!
(16:14:03)
Tim Weippert
He tried it in every WG Meeting slot ...
(16:14:15)
James Kennedy
thanks Ed
(16:14:23)
Robert Scheck
...but not in the GM.
(16:14:29)
Shane Kerr
Leo I think you can already add unnecessary "u" characters to words in the database. color -> colour, and so on.
(16:14:35)
;-)
(16:14:36)
Piotr Strzyżewski
Thanks Ed
(16:14:42)

(16:16:17)
Harry Cross
every time he scrolls down the audio goes
(16:16:17)
Patrick Gilmore
glad I am not the only one who has an issue with audio
(16:16:19)
hard to tell when you have comcast at home :-)
(16:16:28)
Ondrej Caletka
I think it is a lack of power on his Chromebook to encode the shared screen video
(16:16:28)
Eric van Uden
Lack of CPU power on his side?
(16:16:41)
Ave Ozkal
Perhaps closing other tabs would help
(16:16:43)
Menno Schepers
Ondrej, I love your comment, because it is not always the networks fault
(16:17:14)
Ondrej Caletka
@Eric yes, I think so. The problem started when he started sharing screen
(16:17:31)
And it gets much worse when there's movement.
(16:17:56)
Blake Willis
maybe he could use a dedicated PDF reader instead of the browser plugin, & just share that window
(16:18:53)
Pablo Nieto Martinez
And what's the relation about William Sylverster and RIPE? I thought he was an actor :-P
(16:19:28)
Shane Kerr
Or William could run the slides?
(16:19:31)
Ave Ozkal
If it's a chromebook as someone said, then this _is_ the "dedicated" reader
(16:19:45)
But yes, Shane's recommendation makes more sense
(16:19:55)
Menno Schepers
it is a chromebook
(16:20:00)
Pablo Nieto Martinez
I see... sorry... my mistake... wrong person :-P
(16:20:20)
William Sylvester
;)
(16:20:26)
Patrick Gilmore
@Menno: Rule 1: It is always the network. If you ever find that it is not the network, remember Rule 1.
(16:20:36)
You learn this quick running networks
(16:20:41)
Good idea, William
(16:21:05)
Jelte Jansen
much better
(16:21:05)
Ave Ozkal
Oh yes, closing the camera helped a lot
(16:21:06)
Thank you William
(16:21:09)
Harry Cross
yes :)
(16:21:10)
Bengt Gördén
thumbs up
(16:21:11)
Shane Kerr
Success!!
(16:21:12)
Patrick Gilmore
SEE!! It was the network :-)
(16:21:20)
Pablo Nieto Martinez
Yeah. much better sound now :-) clap!
(16:21:20)
Wessel Sandkuijl
Now, start from the top please
(16:21:22)
Niall O'Reilly
@Patrick: Rule 1 ftw
(16:21:22)
Ondrej Caletka
@Patrick: I disagree,. It is always DNS!
(16:21:30)
Erik Bais
I agree. just blame DNS.
(16:21:39)
Patrick Gilmore
Ondrej: I shan't argue. :-) But my users always do.....
(16:21:47)
"That application is not installed on this server, why do you think that will work?" "No, it's the network's fault."
(16:22:09)
William Sylvester
We turned off Denis's video to improve his connection
(16:22:32)
Patrick Gilmore
"The network is congested!! Make it faster!!" "You have a GigE to your desk running at 300 Kbps. Why do you think the network is congested?"
(16:22:45)
Erik Bais
Patrick, stop pestering Billy ;) ..
(16:23:19)
Patrick Gilmore
=)
(16:23:46)
Blake Willis
thanks William
(16:23:46)
often 2.4ghz wifi is the culprit
(16:24:15)
Ave Ozkal
As a note, Denis' token on URL was visible at the end there. Someone might want to revoke that.
(16:24:30)
Erik Bais
There is a question in Q&A William.
(16:24:32)
William Sylvester
We can go back later if we have time, it popped up late..
(16:25:22)
Ondrej Caletka
@Ave good point. This has already happened a few times during the day.
(16:27:18)
Sasha Romijn
We're also exploring options for an NRTMv4 from the side of IRRd v4, but there are no specific plans yet.
(16:27:26)
Edward Shryane
I read the question from Diallo Mamadou in the Q&A, I'd like to assist him but I don't see him in the participants list
(16:28:17)
If anyone can ask him to email me with the details (eshryane [at] ripe [dot] net) and I'd be happy to investigate
(16:29:20)
Rob Evans
Ed, he's there as "Mamadou Hassimiou Diallo"
(16:29:33)
Ave Ozkal
^
(16:29:41)
Edward Shryane
Ah great, thanks!
(16:29:49)
Shane Kerr
You can do pentesting on AWS?
(16:32:51)
That seems... problematic?
(16:32:57)
Harry Cross
Yes you can, but you have to seek approval
(16:33:03)
and make a case
(16:33:06)
Shane Kerr
Interesting.
(16:33:11)
Harry Cross
am I allowed to post a link?
(16:33:25)
Shane Kerr
It's not my WG but I think so. :-D
(16:33:36)
Harry Cross
https://aws.amazon.com/security/penetration-testing/
(16:33:43)
Shane Kerr
Thanks!
(16:33:51)
Marco d'Itri
So this is about programmers rebelling and trying to show management that system administrators are not needed anymore?
(16:34:38)
Shane Kerr
Programmers make terrible admins, in general. :-D
(16:35:03)
Ruben van Staveren
the eternal struggle
(16:35:15)
oth, I see "apache"... wondered if "nginx" was ever tried
(16:35:40)
Marco d'Itri
Shane: agreed
(16:35:45)
Robert Scheck
Hrm, the single-cloud-provider thing again…
(16:36:37)
Marco d'Itri
I have no objections to use cloud infrastructure if this is more cost-effective than in-house hardware, but I feel that this plan to use many SaaS feature of AWS is misguided because it creates a strong dependency on the vendor
(16:37:34)
Shane Kerr
Using Java (portable), Linux (portable), Docker (portable) then locking yourself into a single vendor. *sigh*
(16:37:45)
Robert Scheck
+1, Marco
(16:38:46)
Patrick Gilmore
+1 Marco
(16:39:10)
Harry Cross
+1 Marco, does the NCC have a plan if this all goes pear shaped?
(16:39:37)
Patrick Gilmore
Cloud == Good (assuming benefits of cost or reliabilty or etc.); Proprietary $STUFF == Bad
(16:39:57)
Blake Willis
if you follow Corey Quinn's "this week in AWS", he runs a consulting business centered on rescuing orgs with runaway AWS bills
(16:40:25)
William Sylvester
If you want to ask a question of the speaker (versus just discuss here) please use the Q&A portion of Meetecho
(16:40:40)
Rob Evans
Blake: presumably he can quite quickly figure out their hourly spend and set his consultancy rate 10c per hour less...

Blake Willis

(16:42:18)
good luck controlling your costs on that arch...
(16:43:01)
Ave Ozkal
+1 on marco btw
(16:44:12)
Felipe Victolla Silveira
Thanks all for the input concerning single cloud provider. We are very much aware of the sensitivity of the issue and importance of the availability of our services. We are taking very good care to avoid vendor lock-in, and also working on redundancy on our internal infrastructure. Having said that, we don’t rule out running our services in multiple cloud providers and might decide for that in the future. We are planning on writing a Labs article explaining that in more details.
(16:47:43)
Harry Cross
+1 this should be a GM vote
(16:48:01)
Blake Willis
Thanks Felipe
(16:48:03)
Ave Ozkal
Agreed with Harry, this should be a GM vote
(16:48:15)
Blake Willis
I don't think it should be a GM vote but IMHO the board should be involved
(16:48:38)
Marco d'Itri
This does not appear to be an answer to me...
(16:48:59)
Harry Cross
We shouldn't ideally trust all the data to one NCC member
(16:49:18)
Robert Scheck
Felipe, are you also considering a cloud provider within the RIPE service region, so also legally homed in the service region?
(16:50:28)
Blake Willis
great thanks
(16:51:46)
Marco d'Itri
It is hard to believe that a competitive process will be involved when there is a plan to use AWS-specific features
(16:52:33)
Robert Scheck
+1, Marco
(16:52:45)
Marco d'Itri
to be clear, I would have no objections to use AWS for IaaS, if cost-effective
(16:53:15)
Ave Ozkal
^
(16:53:23)
Felipe Victolla Silveira
At the moment, we are working mostly with the big 3 providers (AWS and Google Cloud mainly), which unfortunately are not headquartered in Europe. However, we will certainly consider an European one if they fulfill our requirements
(16:53:28)
Harry Cross
+1 Marco, it sounds like the decision has already been made
(16:53:32)
Kaveh Ranjbar
Marco, fully understood. That's why we strive for zero vendor lock-in
(16:53:35)
Erik Bais
Thnx !!
(16:53:54)
Adonis Stergiopoulos
